Having performed in a wide variety of venues for diverse audiences, Jay D. Kilgus is no stranger to connecting with people through his beautifully inspired music. Composing piano arrangements that listeners of all generations can relate to has been his goal since a young boy.

Displaying the sheer diversity of the piano as an enjoyable instrument, Kilgus is able to evoke a wide range of emotions with compositions that are unlike any other. From song to song, it is impetuous where the musical flow will take you. Each song is dynamic with a sound unlike any of the previous.

His sophomore release “Notes from Cloud Nine” is the next step in Kilgus' evolution as a nu-smooth jazz pop pianist. He is respected as an accomplished musician and has been admired for his quality of sound, integrity and professionalism.

He has clearly recaptured the beautiful resonance of acoustic piano with his nu-jazz and pop-piano style instrumentals. He integrates smooth melodies and rhythmic grooves that create a mellow texture of soothing sounds and catchy tunes. To consolidate the music into one genre is an injustice, it fits well with smooth jazz, easy listening and even adult contemporary sounds.

Jay is the present heir to over six generations of professional musicians and entertainers. As a native from Motown, Jay began playing piano at the age of five and studied music under the direction of private instructors and professional mentors. He was also inspired by his uncle Bernie Jay Harding, who was a professor of music at the University of Miami, who wrote the textbook “Keys to Jazz,” which is still in use today.

During his teenage years, Jay played in a variety of bands. When he was 17 he joined his mother and father on stage at the keyboards, as part of the trio known as "Fair Warning.” He played local clubs five nights a week, as well as performing in clubs all over the country. This allowed him the opportunity to travel from the heart of the Midwest to the Atlantic East Coast and down south to the Florida Keys.

With the long anticipated release of his debut CD album “A Chord of Three Strands,” Jay’s smooth piano sounds have defined him as a fresh new contemporary musician. The original compositions that he has created shine across the spectrum of many musical genres. His signature style of songwriting, arranging and performing is quickly bringing him to the forefront of today’s up and coming new recording artists.

Jay has established a strong reputation for professionalism and integrity that has allowed him the opportunity to use his talents in a variety of different venues including weddings, community events, concerts and night clubs. Jay has countless musical influences from many genres including great artists such as: Billy Joel, Elton John, George Winston, The Beatles, The Eagles, ELO, Steeley Dan, Pink Floyd and so many more.

Jay composes and arranges his music in such a way that allows the listener the freedom to paint their own mental portrait created by the mood and movement of the music. This premiere CD is a collage of unique sounds and familiar rhythms, which in turn makes his music comfortable and easy to listen to. It’s like wearing your favorite shirt, you’ll want to put it on again and again.  REALLY!!
